Evaluating the child strongly involves assessing the child’s development. Multiple tools have been used to assess various angles in the child’s experience and development. Standardized tools like the Behavior Assessment System for Children quantify a child’s behavior and emotional symptoms (Reynolds & Kamphaus, 2015). These tools provide empirical evidence that can be used to raise awareness of issues and monitor trends over time. For example, experience derived from open-ended interviews and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) gives a more elaborated picture of the child’s functioning identified from the parent’s and teachers’ points of view. These tools assist in establishing not only the difficulties a child faces but also the resources and ways of dealing with those difficulties.

The role of the ecological theory, which focuses on the relationships between the developmentally disabled child and their environment, is significant in thoroughly assessing the child’s situation. For instance, ecomaps can show the different systems that may affect a child’s life, such as family, learning institution, and community (Family Finding and Engagement Tools, 2020). Ecomaps greatly help define supportive and nonsuppurative relationships within a particular community, which is why interventions are more focused. If the child has discipline problems with the teachers, the ecomap will show whether this results from home influence or peer pressure.

For Claudia, quantitative measurement tools like the NICHQ Vanderbilt scales for ADHD (American Academy of Pediatrics & National Institute for Children’s Health, 2002) and qualitative measurement tools will be used to get a complete picture. Applying multiple tools is practical because each addresses different aspects of Claudia’s experience. Qualitative tools provide more valuable data about behavioral concerns; on the other hand, qualitative tools provide a richer and more individualized account. These assessments work in synergy to provide an overall perspective of Claudia’s needs, affording proper and suitable intervention.

This qualitative data is crucial for understanding the emotional impact of her family situation, which quantitative measures alone might miss (Park, Horn, & Kurth, 2021).

Ecological tools, including the ecomap, provide a broader view of Claudia’s interactions with various systems, such as her family, school, and community. The ecomap helps to visualize her support network and how her environment influences her well-being. This context is important for understanding how external factors affect Claudia’s current issues and is not captured by quantitative data alone (Park et al., 2021).

By integrating these different assessment methods, we can form a more complete picture of Claudia. Quantitative data offers objective patterns, open-ended interviews provide detailed personal insights, and ecological tools give context to her experiences. This comprehensive approach helps ensure a well-rounded understanding of Claudia’s situation and supports more effective interventions (American Academy of Pediatrics & National Institute for Children’s Health Quality, 2002; Park et al., 2021).
