CLASSMATE’S POST:

Today, there is an immigration issue that can not go unseen. Our policies, laws and facilities are not prepared to process the rampant number of migrants wanting to enter the country. The increase in volume of migrants coming into the country is record breaking with more diverse backgrounds than before. Our current outdated Visa system relies on temporary reductions which only allows us short term results. President Biden??s decision to un-secure our borders has led to a public safety disaster, where both Americans and migrants are experiencing immense suffering. Moreso, the rise in migrants committing violent crimes poses a huge threat to our citizens. As Senator of Florida, I need to do what I can to get on top of this issue in the best way possible. I plan to tackle this issue by targeting illegal immigration, so legal immigration into our country can return to a controlled flow. I will pass a bill that requires all employers to run a thorough background check of all job-seeking individuals. This background check must include fingerprints, in order to properly verify the legality of their residence in the US. This same procedure will be required of those wanting to apply for food stamps and low-income housing. Additionally, I will be increasing penalties for employers found hiring undocumented individuals. This will be punishable by fines and jail time. The punishment will double with every employee found to be undocumented. There is no doubt that immigrants have the ability to strengthen this country. Therefore, I will be implementing guest workers programs where companies can hire workers to come into the country to do seasonal work for them. Workers hired must be declared, so both guest workers rights and citizen rights can be protected. Trafficking is undoubtedly a major driver of illegal immigration. Punishment associated with bringing in illegal immigrants will increase. In addition, both traffickers and illegal immigrants will be held responsible for the actions of those brought in. Lastly, I will write a bill to eliminate birthright citizenship if the child’s parents are illegal immigrants. This will lower the incentives of parents to illegally come into this country. Our country is currently suffering a crisis in navigating immigration, and as Senator of Florida I plan to address it as quickly and effectively as possible.
